MEPs condemn the deliberate act of aggression of Russia against Ukraine.
The European Parliament on 12 December approved a resolution calling for tougher EU sanctions against Russia if the Ukrainian soldiers, captured on November 25 at the Black sea, will be released.
433 MEPs voted in favor, 105 against, abstained 30 deputies.
MEPs condemn the deliberate act of aggression of Russia against Ukraine, took place on the 25th November in the Kerch Strait, and require the immediate and unconditional release of Ukrainian ships and sailors who should receive pow status.
“We urge the EU and member States to impose targeted sanctions in the case that 24 Ukrainian servicemen will not be released in case of further military escalation”, – said in a resolution.
The amendment also calls on the OSCE to extend the mandate of the Special monitoring mission to Ukraine on the region of the Azov sea.
“The European Parliament calls on member countries to deny access to EU ports for the Russian ships arriving from the sea of Azov, while Russia will not restore free navigation through the Kerch Strait and sea of Azov”, – the document says.
