The European Parliament adopted a resolution calling to hold in Venezuela “free and fair” presidential elections. Brussels also confirmed the recognition of Huang Guido as “the legitimate acting President of Venezuela”.
The resolution also condemns the “blatant repression and violence” from the authorities of the country and expresses concern about “the unprecedented humanitarian and political crisis in the country.”
The document States that Venezuela is faced with an acute shortage of medicine and food, massive violations of human rights, superinflyatsiya, political persecution, corruption and violence. The poverty rate has reached 87% of the population, and millions of Venezuelans fled the country.
The European Parliament called for the adoption of new EU sanctions against stored abroad illegal financial assets of the national authorities against those responsible for human rights violations and repression. The resolution also proposes to deny visas to the EU countries these people and their families.
