Amendment of priority of the Russian Constitution over international law violates the obligations of the country, said the representative of the European Commission, Peter Stano.
He referred to the opinion of the Venice Commission that such provision is contrary to the international obligations of Russia, reports TASS.
Stano also said that Brussels is “very closely” monitoring the situation around the constitutional amendments in the Russian Federation.
Earlier human rights organization Amnesty International called the amendments to the Constitution of Russia “flagrant violation of human rights and the rule of law.” In her opinion, the authorities are trying to grant themselves such powers to ignore European court of human rights.
