The European Parliament is preparing a resolution on the situation in the Azov sea with a call to impose restrictions against Russia.
The European Parliament believes the incident in the Kerch Strait by Russia’s attempt “to deprive Ukraine of its sovereign rights in the sea of Azov” and urged to impose new sanctions against Russia. On Tuesday, December 11.
According to the resolution, Russia wants to turn the Azov sea into an “internal lake” and make it exclusive military zone.
“The European Parliament expresses deep concern at the fact that this case may represent an attempt to deprive Ukraine of its sovereign rights in the sea of Azov with the aim to turn it into Russia’s “internal lake”, to make him an exceptional military zone and to take control of the economies of South-Eastern Ukraine”, – the document says.
In the European Parliament also urged member countries of the European Union to impose new sanctions against Russia.
In addition, the document once again stress the need “to deny Russian ships coming from the sea of Azov, in the access to the ports of the EU.”
As reported, yesterday the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin in Brussels proposed that the European partners are several types of sanctions against Russia because of the incident in the Kerch Strait.
Earlier it became known that on December 12-13, ahead of the European Council on a visit to Brussels to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. During the visit he intends to hold a series of meetings with top EU officials and discuss the issue of strengthening sanctions against Russia.
