The document was signed in Brussels.
The government of Ukraine and the European Commission signed an agreement to support initiatives of Eastern Ukraine. A document entitled “Agreement on the financing measures for the EU’s support for Eastern Ukraine” was signed by Deputy Prime Ivanna klympush-Tsintsadze, and the representative of the EC Catarina Maternova.
The agreement provides for granting Ukraine financing in the amount of 50 million euros through the European neighbourhood instrument. The document creates the legal basis for funding by the European Commission of measures aimed at promoting peace, economic reconstruction and reconciliation in Eastern Ukraine.
The agreement provides for four areas of funding:
– decentralization and governance;
– economic recovery and development of small and medium enterprises;
– public safety and social cohesion;
– sectoral reforms and structural changes.
In particular, it is assumed that the funds will be aimed at stimulating employment and economic growth by providing assistance for the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), promoting public initiatives on social cohesion and reconciliation; support sectoral reforms and structural changes in health care, education, support critical infrastructure.
