The President of the European Council Donald Tusk said that there were no grounds for intervention of the European Union in the conflict between the governments of Spain and Catalonia.
He noted that “concerned” by the situation in Catalonia and is in constant touch with the Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, reports DW.
“The position of the EU institutions and member States is clear: there is no place for mediation or international initiatives or actions. I don’t expect extensive discussions about the situation in Spain,” – said Tusk.
In turn, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that he supports the position of the leadership of Spain.
Earlier, the Chairman of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani said that no country of Europe does not recognize the independence of Catalonia.
