The statement was made by Merkel.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the agreement in the European Union on the question of amendments to the Gas Directive and implementation of the project Nord stream-2. She said this on Friday, February 8, in Berlin.
“As for the EU Gas Directive, we agreed, and this became possible because Germany and France cooperated closely with each other,” said the German Chancellor at a joint press conference with the President of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
At the same time Merkel noted the need for diversification of energy supply of Germany and of the supply of resources not only from Russia. “We said we will continue to use and liquefied gas,” she said.
The DPA Agency writes that the revised Gas Directive will not block the Nord stream – 2. Paris and Berlin have produced a compromise version of the amendments to the Gas Directive, which will leave ample opportunities for Berlin to implement the project. The essence of the proposal of Germany and France is that the country which is producing gas from the sea gas pipeline, will have the right choice of formula applied to the draft regulation of the EU Gas Directive and possible exemptions from it. In the case of Nord stream – 2 that country is Germany.
