The EU Council will consider bezviz for Ukraine on may 11

Visa-free regime implies the free movement in the Schengen zone.

The Council of the European Union for foreign Affairs Thursday, may 11, will consider the question of introducing a visa-free regime for short trips of Ukrainian citizens in the Schengen area.

In case of positive result of voting the decision on the abolition of visas for Ukrainians should be signed by the President of the European Parliament (EP) and the representative of the EU presidency country of Malta.

The dialogue between the EU and Ukraine on visa liberalisation was launched in 2008, and in November 2010, the EU offered Kiev the action plan for visa-free regime. The Parliament of Ukraine adopted all the required legislation and the European Commission in December 2015, has confirmed the fulfillment of all the conditions Kiev.

Initially, Kyiv expected to get visa-free regime until the end of 2016, but Europe has repeatedly postponed the issue.

In early April the European Parliament approved the decision on visa-free regime, he was supported 521 of 751 deputies.

At the meeting of the EU Council on Thursday will vote by qualified majority for a positive decision of their voices should give at least 55% of the countries-EU members. In this case, after the signature of the President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani and representative of Malta, the decision will be published in the official journal of the EU and only after 20 days, the Ukrainians will be able to travel to the EU without visas.

According to media reports, in the case that the Council of the EU approves visa-free regime, may 15, to be held the signing of this document by the EP and Malta, and roughly 11 Jun visa-free regime will work.
