The representatives of Constantinople will be preparing to granting of autocephaly to Ukraine
The Ecumenical Patriarchate appointed two Plenipotentiaries for the preparation before the granting of autocephaly. This is stated on the page of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Facebook.
Representatives of the Constantinople Kiev became Archbishop Daniel Amfiliki from the USA and Bishop Ilarion of Edmonton from Canada.
“In preparation for the granting of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, the Ecumenical Patriarchate appointed its Exarch in Kyiv, His grace Archbishop Daniel Pamphylian from the United States and His grace Bishop Hilarion of Edmonton Canada, both of which serve the Ukrainian Orthodox faithful in their respective countries, the Ecumenical Patriarchate”, – stated in the message.
As reported, on July 28, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew confirmed his intention to grant autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
April 19, the Verkhovna Rada 268 votes of people’s deputies supported the appeal of President of Ukraine to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on the granting of the Tomos of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Later it became known that the Ecumenical Patriarchate begins a consultation with the sister churches on the issue of granting autocephaly to the UOC.
Note that since the beginning of 90-s in Ukraine there are several jurisdictions that call themselves Orthodox of the Autocephalous local churches.
The canonical status of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Bessarabian Metropolitanate of the Romanian Orthodox Church. Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate is canonically unrecognized.
In addition, in Ukraine, there is also the unrecognized Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC).
