Boulder will fly at a distance of about 1.8 million kilometers.
NASA reported the approach to Earth asteroid 2014 JO25, with a diameter of about thousand meters, and called it potentially dangerous.
See 2014 JO25 will be in the night from 19 to 20 April at the telescope. The probability of collision with our planet is negligible.
Boulder will fly at a distance of approximately 1.8 million kilometers – that’s about 4.5 times more than the distance from the earth to the moon. However, it is officially considered “potentially dangerous”, as this category NASA puts all celestial bodies approaching our planet at a distance closer than 19.5 distances between the Moon and our planet.
“This is one of the ten famous asteroid ever so close to the Ground,” explained the Italian astrophysicist Gianluca Masi, who helped determine the orbit of the asteroid.
The previous celestial body, which passed by so close to Earth was asteroid 4179 Toutatis, which, in 2004, flew by at a distance of 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.
