The company-developer of the Argo Autonomous cars AI, in which Ford has invested $ 1 billion has begun to develop artificial intelligence for “virtual driver”. To this end, the project has already attracted scientists from universities, Carnegie Mellon and Georgia.
The company believes that the new technology will help Autonomous vehicles to properly see and interpret the surrounding world, but also to predict the behavior of traffic participants. Also the drones will be able to better distinguish between people, to read facial expressions and understand the possible actions.
“The most important step towards the creation of safe Autonomous vehicles is endowing them with the ability to identify people, regardless of their size, growth, position in space, — said associate Professor at the Institute of robotics University Carnegie Mellon Deva of Ramadan.
Currently, Ford is testing vehicles with automatic control of the fourth level. This means that in most driving situations the car can move without human intervention, but the driver can take over if you want.

Drones are oriented in space due to optical rangefinders and LiDAR special three-dimensional maps, which contains thorough information about topography, layout, road signs and other landmarks.
