Experts recommended to take 0.4–0.8 mg of folic acid daily.
American doctors recommend to take daily folic acid to all women, regardless of whether they plan to soon have children or not.
According to their last report of the task force of the United States, published in the journal JAMA, most women are not getting enough folate.
It turns out that a lack of it during pregnancy increases the risk of fetal neural tube defects, which in turn affects the development of the brain, skull and spine, resulting in serious consequences, including disability and death.
Experts recommended to take 0.4–0.8 mg of folic acid daily. These recommendations apply to all women in the reproductive age – because according to statistics, about half of all pregnancies are unplanned.
It is noted that the positive effect of folic acid on reducing the number of children with abnormalities is confirmed by research.
Held in Hungary study 5453 women, which was held between 1984 and 1992, showed that in the group of women not taking folic acid, were born six infants with developmental disorders in the group who took none.
However, according to the study, 1992, from 3056 women who received folic acid, the baby was born with defects in, and from 3056 women who did not receive it – nine.
