Firtash himself did not expect arrest
Detention on 21 February in Vienna Ukrainian businessman Dmitry Firtash, which occurred after the permission of the court to extradite him to the United States, was made on the basis of issued orders Spain. This was reported by press Secretary of the Prosecutor’s office of Vienna, reports Deutsche Welle.
The Prosecutor noted that, technically, the arrest is not connected with the decision of the court and on the basis of the European warrant issued by Spain, where he is accused of money laundering.
In turn, the chief editor of Insider in the comments to “Gromadsky” said that Firtash did not expect the arrest.
“He was very focused and refused to pronounce the last word. Now he needs to choose a measure of restraint within or 48, or 72 hours.”
According to the journalist, the process of transmission within the EU is easier than the transfer from the EU to the United States.
“But it is unclear where he will give”, — he said.
The final decision on the extradition of Firtash to take the Federal Minister of justice of Austria.
Recall that Firtash was arrested in Austria in March 2014 on request of the American authorities. Ukrainian businessman accused that he wanted to obtain permission for the extraction of titanium raw materials in India with the help of bribes, intending to sell the finished products in the United States. In the case of the extradition of Firtash faces 50 years in prison with confiscation of all assets.
