“The curse of Annabelle: the Birth of evil”: an interview with Anthony Lapaglia

We promise you the exclusive premiere of the horror film “the Curse of Annabelle: the Birth of evil” (Annabelle: Creation)? We keep our promises and helped us to stay true to the word friends, colleagues from the company “Karo-hire”, which feed Area the Horrors bummed exclusive interview with actor Anthony Lapaglia.

A native of Australia, winner of the Emmy and Golden globe awards, Anthony Lapaglia familiar to audiences for his roles in the films “Happy marriage” and “Tomba”, but in pure horror is still not removed. In the movie “the Curse of Annabelle: the Birth of evil” Anthony has played, among other things, the man who created the damn doll Annabelle!

Why are you interested in this story?

I’ve never starred in horror films, and participating in “the Curse of Annabelle” I demanded new skills. In addition, I liked the “chuchkovsky” the direction of history, frightening mostly on a psychological basis. Nevertheless, remaining terrible. After viewing the previous film directed by David Sandberg, “And the lights go out…”, I realized that he knows how to tell such stories.

In addition, my 14-year-old daughter loves horror. Usually she’s not interested in my work. But it so happened that she asked me where I work, when I started the role in “the Curse of Annabelle”. When I told her, she was ecstatic. I’m finally doing something that she likes! (laughs)

Tell us about your character, Samuel Mullins. What he is when we first meet him, and who he is becoming the result of history?

Samuel is a hardworking laborer who earns a living by making dolls. This character is close to me because my father was an Italian mechanic. When we first meet Samuel, he lived a perfect life. And then, in an instant, loses all. Years later he and his wife are still living in “purgatory.” Besides, her face disfigured, and happiness in their life together anymore. So they decide to invite to live a group of orphans who have nowhere else to go. Samuel hoped that the sounds playing in the garden children will help his wife.

The house reflects everything that happens to Mallinson. He’s like a time capsule since then, as the tragedy occurred, has not changed. It felt the decline, he feels himself Samuel. And when the children from the orphanage moved into the house, instead of joy to him, bringing back memories of the nightmare that he experienced, and which still haunts him. He hides a terrible secret, which should not be disclosed. In addition, Samuel – a broken man, and even if he wanted to get close to girls, I don’t think he would have got it.

What were you, as a father, to be adults near children in danger?

Being a parent means to radically change their point of view on the world. And Yes, sometimes it is scarier than any movie. You need to consider in advance any possibility. My daughter and her friends so quickly move around the city – sometimes they go to a party before, you’ll know that they have ordered Uber. I never thought that 14-year old can be an account in Uber.

And what was it like playing a role with the intent to scare their young colleagues in the frame?

When I asked how you are shooting, I said, “Fine. I just spend all day walking around and scaring the kids.” Not that I liked to scare them, but for this role I decided not to be too friendly with the girls-Actresses, because I wanted to keep the “hard” distance. It was easier for all of us when filming the next scene.

Filming was there anything unusual or unexpected?

When we shot the scene in which Samuel is actually something horrible happens, I got so into the role that fell to the floor – and I’m torn pants. Then I got up and told his colleagues: “That’s definitely not the way to live an adult”.

What was it like working with Miranda Otto, who plays your wife?

Many years ago I worked with Miranda’s father, and first met her when she was a child. For many years we saw each other and talked, so I was already familiar and it was great.

Miranda admitted she didn’t like scenes that she had to play in the same room as Annabelle – it seemed to her that the doll was watching her. You didn’t feel anything like that?

No, I did not touch. But I was impressed with the design of the doll. Under certain lighting she looks like a clown, but it looks very ominous.

Have you ever in your life faced with manifestations of the supernatural?

Once I had the feeling I couldn’t explain. I was about twenty, and I lived on the sixteenth floor. My girlfriend was standing close to the window, and I suddenly shouted: “go away!”. Later, he surprised his violent reaction, I asked the Concierge, is there anything strange in my apartment. It turned out that about ten years ago in it lived a woman who committed suicide – jumping out of the window.
