The scandalous situation with the illegal supply in the Crimea gas turbine equipment manufactured by the German company Siemens, has revitalized the subject of the power of the Peninsula. Then Russia and Ukraine were able to negotiate the supply of the Crimea: Moscow electricity supplies to Kiev, and he provides the light of the disputed Peninsula. The contract was to act in the course of the year, but in November of 2015 intervened Ukrainian civil society activists. They blew up power lines, leading to the Crimea. The Peninsula was plunged into darkness.

These aggregates appeared not only the owners of retail outlets, food service establishments and residents of rural areas, but also ordinary inhabitants of city apartments. The head of the Crimean Republican Association “Ekologiya I Mir” Victor Tarasenko in an interview with Radio Liberty expressed the hope that the construction of power plants will lead to the end. “We need to protect ourselves from the point of view of economic and political issues. [New heat] power plant can provide the necessary optimum in order that people lived, worked economy. In terms of the development of wind and geothermal energy at the Crimea has a huge potential, it will give a qualitative improvement in terms of ecology, but it is a challenge in the long term,” – said the expert. However, he found it difficult to imagine what consequences may result in the termination of the construction of the TPP.
A member of one of the energy companies of the Crimea, who asked to keep his anonymity, in conversation with the correspondent of Radio Liberty speculated that the scandal involving Siemens and the possible worsening of relations with the West are not for Moscow a compelling reason to abandon the electrification of the Peninsula. “Thermal power plant in Crimea is a big image project for Russia, the Kerch bridge. To leave the station halfway means to expose themselves to ridicule, to give food for gossip that Russia in the Crimea is not so smooth. In Moscow is never on the go. Let it be done to the detriment of themselves, let all the German company will withdraw from Russia of its assets, let the West adopt a new package of sanctions, but no one to dictate the conditions in the Crimea, the Russian leadership will not allow,” – said the Crimean.
Meanwhile, the German business publication Wirtschafts Woche reported that Siemens is mulling the release of all Russian projects. However, later the company described this as “speculation”.
