The constitutional court has opposed excessive government interference in the coordination of meetings
The constitutional court declared illegal the refusal of the authorities of the Komi Republic in the harmonization of the two meetings. The resolution cautioned against “excessive intervention” by the regional authorities in the harmonization of public actions.
The court addressed two citizens, whom the authorities of the Republic agreed to hold a stock. The administration motivated the decision of the regional laws and proximity to buildings authorities.
The constitutional court sided with the applicants. Legislative and organizational constraints should not lead to undue interference in the activities of the organizers and participants of public events, said the Agency.
“The response of public authorities on preparing and holding meetings, rallies, demonstrations, marches and picketing must be neutral,” — said in the constitutional court. According to the judges, the political views of the initiators of the action must not interfere with the right to freedom of peaceful Assembly.
