In the heart of the Czech capital at the entrance to old Prague Estates theatre installed an unusual sculpture that attracts attention with its mystery and mysticism. “The cloak of Conscience” – “commander” (Lareau) (2000) – a symbolic monument of bronze, the famous artist of our time, sculptor Anna Chromium (1940).. Isvav his first “Cloak of Conscience” a five-meter height of a single piece of white marble from the Carrara quarry, Anna, Chromium became the first woman to be awarded the prestigious Michelangelo prize in 2008, among the sculptors an Oscar. The artist has laid hidden meaning in his creation: the empty raincoat was supposed to symbolize the way in which we all go through life guided by our conscience, as well as the intangible spirit that remains after each of us in memory of their children, grandchildren and loved ones.
A little later, the artist has created several more bronze sculptures. One is installed in Salzburg with the walls of the Cathedral of dark bronze, called Pieta – “a pity” that makes everyone stop and think about the meaning of life.
But in Prague, “the Cloak of Conscience” has its own name and history. Height in half-meter bronze sculpture “commander” from a distance like a traveler in a cloak who has sat down to rest. And, approaching the figure, it is clear that the figures do not, and there is one hollow cloak, took the form of the human body.
Attached to the pedestal of the monument plaque reads: “With respect to W. A. Mozart and his Opera “don Giovanni”, premiered in this theater 29.10.1787 G.” Mozart Himself conducted the musicians on the stage of the Estates theatre on opening night. It was the greatest event in the theatrical life of the city.
And sculpture Anna Chromium was the symbol of an intangible spirit of the slain commander of the gay history of don Juan. The meaning of the play commander, being already dead, came back to take revenge on the rapist and wins over the desecrated honor of his daughter, in the image of the Stone guest.
As it turned out, the image of don Juan – the killer, the rake, the duelist is dedicated to the approximately 140 works of art. Is paintings and sculptures, tragic plays and operas, poems and feature films. And every Creator in their own way interpret this story.
The story that became the basis for the creation of the first piece of don Juan
Tirso de Molina (1583-1648) created the role of a passionate lover, duelist, and legendary Spaniard don Juan.
Based on real events, it is known that the Spanish don Juan de Tenorio, is the prototype of the well-known don Juan, who comes from the aristocratic Seville of the same kind. Distinguished by his mad courage, audacity, immorality, violence, love Affairs.
For him there was neither earthly nor divine laws, all subject only to his carnal sensual pleasures. For their sake, he could take over, and aristocrat and a commoner, and even a nun that the Catholic Church was regarded as sedition.
A seducer and a rapist of women, the rowdy and daring duelist remained unpunished only because with him in these atrocities was the king of Castile (Spain) Pedro I (1350-1369). To pacify and to bring to justice the miscreants was impossible. Until one day, the hero’s lover with a friend of the king, indulging in violence and risposte not kidnapped the daughter of the Commendatore of don Gonzago de Ulloa, with his killing.
Justice remained silent, and the Franciscan monks decided on their own to punish the murderer. The conspirators have set a trap, making a date, on behalf of a beautiful woman late at night in the temple, where he was buried commander. The monks performed an act of justice: killed Juan and spread the rumor that he was “cast down to hell by the statue of the murdered Commander”. So was revealed God’s will and justice.
Over the centuries, this story has acquired new details that have softened and become more attractive. And in the end the hero-lover have clothed yourselves in a more charismatic way and became popular and moved to the “eternal images” along with images of don Quixote, Faust, hamlet. This name is of nominal value.
Creative idea of the “Cloak of Conscience” was translated by Anna Chromium in identical sculptures installed in front of a medieval Church.Severina on the Friesland island of Sylt, in the Royal Palace of the princes of Monaco and near the National archaeological Museum in Athens.
