The Chinese released the cheapest electric car in the world

It is not known when the car will launch in free sale.

The Chinese joint venture of SAIC and General Motors called GM-Wuling has launched a limited edition E100 electric car Baojun, strikingly similar to the Smart ForTwo Electric Drive. It costs 35 800 yuan, corresponding to 5 300 US dollars.

The electric car is equipped with engine 40 HP (29 kW) with a torque of 110 Nm, which can reach a maximum speed of 100 km/h. Li-ion battery, as claimed by the manufacturer, can provide driving range on a single charge of 155 km, which, according to GM, makes the electric car “excellent choice for daily urban commuting”. The battery takes 7.5 hours.

Baojun E100 accommodates two people. And although it looks like a Smart ForTwo, the dimensions are smaller than the German city car 1 670 mm in height and a wheelbase of 1,600 mm. Chinese electric citicar is equipped with independent front suspension and rear beam.

Despite the cheapness of the car, safety features include antilock brakes (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), steering electric booster, the electric Parking brake system child seat ISOFIX and a warning system for pedestrians.

Optionally available are Parking sensors, 7.0-inch display, Wi-Fi connectivity, Keyless entrance, air filter, air conditioning, power Windows and control buttons for the audio system, located on the steering wheel.

Order book is only open to residents of Guangxi province, where is located the headquarters of Baojun. As the company says, the first 200 copies were interested in 5 000 people. And pre-orders were accepted 10 July. Currently the company issued an additional 500 cars. It is not known when the car will launch in free sale.
