Phenomenon has broken the record.
Last week, professors and students of Chinese culture University in the mountains of Taipei saw a rainbow for nine hours.
“It was amazing … It was like a gift from heaven … It is so rare!” said Zhou Kunitsyn, Professor, Department of atmospheric Sciences of the University.
With the help of students and community campuses Professor Zhou and the second Professor Liu Jing-Juan made every effort to commit unique phenomenon. The collected observations show that the phenomenon lasted from 06:57 to 15:55 to 8 hours 58 minutes.
If the Commission of Guinness world records will confirm this information, it will destroy the previous record for most “long” rainbow, established in Wetherby in Yorkshire, England, March 14, 1994. Then the duration of stay was about six hours.
“In four hours we mobilized all of our students and began to inform everyone in the school, the students took pictures and sent us pictures,” said Professor Zhou.
“When we overcame the previous record of six hours, I could barely eat lunch, it was lunch time. I was so excited, I wanted to make sure we caught the rainbow. But then there was something even more incredible, it surpassed the previous record for another three hours!”.

The rainbow lasted so long due to the northeast monsoon which is a seasonal phenomenon in this area. Such atmospheric conditions common during winter in the mountain ridge Yanminshan in Taipei, where campus is located, making it ideal for detecting long-term rainbows, said Professor Zhou.
