On 14 November the Appeal court of Kyiv city rendered a decision.
The court of appeal of Kyiv on 14 November rejected the Specialized anti-corruption Prosecutor’s office demanding to toughen the measure of restraint to the defendant in the “case of the backpacks” – the son of interior Minister Alexander Avakov Arsen Avakov.
The prosecution insisted on election of a preventive measure Alexander Avakov in the form of detention with possibility of bail of 5 million UAH.
In the network appeared the photo of the son of the interior Minister in court.
The Prosecutor SAP Vasily Krikun in comments to reporters explained the reasons for the appeal.
“It’s not a position change, just carefully read the decision of the investigating judge, we came to the conclusion that there are grounds for appeal. Indeed, when the court chooses a measure of restraint in the form of personal liability, the measure is not disputed. But the court refused to remand in custody, and the denial of the detention is challenged on appeal,” said Krikun.
The lawyer son of the Minister of internal Affairs Andrey Fedur called appeal SAP for measure unfounded.
Earlier it was reported that the National anti-corruption Bureau on October 31 raided the son of the Minister of internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, Alexander.
Avakov Jr. is suspected of complicity in the embezzlement of more than 14 million UAH for the purchase of backpacks for the needs of the Ministry.
On 1 November, the court dismissed Avakov under the personal obligation.
In 2015, the network appeared the video, which man, like the son of the Minister of internal Affairs Arsen Avakov Alexander, agrees with the alleged Deputy Minister Sergei Chebotar about the delivery of the backpacks for the interior Ministry before tendering.
The investigation established that the purchase price of the backpacks, which were listed in the contract, 2,900 USD, but the actual cost was 500 USD. Part of the backpacks were made in prison, and their cost is about 100 UAH.
