The candidate of the SPD for Chancellor of Germany, Martin Schulz criticized the foreign policy of Russia in interview to the newspaper Bild.
“The government of Vladimir Putin is pursuing a very expansive and somewhat aggressive foreign policy,” Schultz said and added that some of Russia’s actions in Syria, in his opinion, “absolutely unacceptable.”
In addition, he accused Russia of “flagrant violation of international law in Ukraine and annexing Crimea.” According to him, it took a country with veto power in the UN security Council, which bears special responsibility to promote peace.
The politician could not answer the leading question, how long can still continue the occupation of the Crimea. In his opinion, to solve this situation is possible only at the negotiating table, because “the Russians have made it a fait accompli and will insist on this”.
Schultz, according to his confession, is not a supporter of Russia’s isolation and in favour of dialogue with Moscow.
