Canada is forced to tighten border controls.
In the canadian province of Quebec, a growing number of migrants from the United States asking for asylum.
The canadian border service CBSA and the RCMP the Federal police transferred employees from other regions of the country to check the increasing number of migrants. In Quebec created a temporary reception centre for migrants from the United States, said the representative of the CBSA at a press conference on Monday. According to him, in January of this year in Quebec, there were 452 filed petitions for asylum, while in January 2016, there were only 137. How many from seeking asylum crossed the border illegally, the representative of the border guard service said.
Thus, according to him, migrants illegally crossing the border, are divided into two groups. First, those who arrived in the U.S. on a tourist visa directly, and travel to Canada to apply for asylum. The second group includes migrants who had lived in the US for a long time, and is now trying to move to Canada.
Between Canada and the United States signed an agreement, according to which the border crossing with the aim of obtaining asylum is illegal, because both countries recognize each other safe.
Earlier, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau announced that his country is ready to give asylum to migrants irrespective of their religious affiliation.
