Divorce will cost you a pretty penny, you really want to share their property?
This is a quote from the writings of 68-year-old writer Nancy Crampton Brophy (Nancy Crampton Brophy), in which the author talks about how to kill the spouse. A small (700 words) an essay with the telling title “How to kill your husband,” was published in November 2011 on the website See Jane Publish (currently removed from this resource). Seven years later, the woman accused that she actually killed her own husband.
Victims, 63-year-old Daniel Brophy, was a chef and more than ten years taught at the Oregon culinary Institute, where he was found shot to death on 2 June. The murder was committed without any witnesses. Two days later, the widow wrote on his Facebook page:
My dear friends and family, I have sad news. My husband and best friend, chef Dan Brophy was killed yesterday morning. If those of you with whom I am close, I think that I should tell you this on the phone, you are right, but while I’m trying to understand what happened.
The deceased was a popular man, known for his creative approach to educational process and specific black humour. For example, he used to say:
All you can eat … once.
The Institute organized a farewell ceremony, attended by hundreds of people, and where Nancy gave a speech:
Dan was one of the few people I know who have done exactly what wanted and loved it. He loved teaching, loved the mushrooms, loved his family. Life for him was not only a scientific experiment, but sometimes an adventure.
Three months later, on 5 September, police arrested a woman on charges of murder and unlawful use of firearms.
Together with her husband, Nancy, for which this was a second marriage, lived for 27 years and, as he told the writer on his personal website, in their marriage had its UPS and downs. She wrote and self-published several novels in which, in particular, described the murder of men. The titles are intriguing — and now, after everything that’s happened, sounds very ominous: “Hell’s heart”, “Not the police”, “the wrong brother”, “Not the man”.
In August 2012, Nancy gave an interview to the blog Romancing the Genres, where, answering one of the questions, he joked:
My husband learned to sleep, watching me with one eye.
