The Australian under the pseudonym Bo greaves (Beau Greaves) showed how to use sticks to catch the crab.

First greaves dug deep in the swamp hole. Then, climbing back down, he with a stick attracted the attention of the crab. Then the man with his bare hands grabbed the prey and pulled it to the surface.
“Crab twice grabbed me, I nearly lost a finger and was close to my wrist was shattered,” wrote greaves.
