The Swedish Embassy is closely following the situation in the ATO zone.
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Ukraine Martin Hagstrom and Attaché for defense of the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine Lieutenant-Colonel Peter lidén visited the area of the antiterrorist operation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

During the visit of the Swedish guests talked to Ukrainian soldiers, who informed the diplomats about the complex and dangerous environmental situation around the tank of chemical waste Tureckogo phenol plant. According to the soldiers, if there is a dam, toxic chemicals can get into the Seversky Donets river, which is the main source of drinking water for residents of the region.
“The problem of the destruction of a dam could have disastrous environmental consequences, so it is urgent to find concrete solutions and out of this difficult situation,” the diplomat said, and noticed that the person shall inform through diplomatic channels the relevant humanitarian and defense organizations, who are now engaged in the situation in Eastern Ukraine, with the aim of facilitating resolution of this issue.
In addition, Liden said that to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the issue of attracting Swedish instructors for training Ukrainian military medics.
