The American company Workhorse Group, announced development of a hybrid pickup truck a few years ago showed a pre-production version of the model. Pickup W-15 with the possibility of charging from the external network is able to drive only on electricity for about 80 miles (about 128 kilometers).
Workhorse sled for the first time gave a presentation of novelties in California, the characteristics of the pickup have been disclosed previously. The total capacity of the power plant is 460 horsepower.
In was composed of two electric motors (one for each axis), a set of lithium-ion Panasonic batteries under the floor and a small gasoline engine as a generator — it is used only to generate electricity.
According to the manufacturer, pick-up-able costs approximately 3,14 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers. Acceleration from standstill to 60 mph (96 km / h) takes 5.5 seconds.
Overall length of the new five-seat cabin has almost reached six meters (in case of more than two meters width). For the sake of reducing the weight, the design has been applied, for example, a carbon-fiber body panels.
First customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2018. Projected starting cost of the truck is about 52 thousand dollars.
