Searches in the Committee are related to the case of the tobacco company “Tedis”.
Minister Arsen Avakov said that the leadership of the Antimonopoly Committee should be fired for the monopoly of the tobacco company “Tedis Ukraine” associated with the Russian billionaire Igor Kesaeva on the cigarette market in Ukraine.
He said this on Friday at a briefing in the Prosecutor General’s office.
Avakov said that today’s searches in the AMC are connected with the “Tedis”.
“I want to say about the role of Antimonopoly Committee in this long-lasting Scam. AMC – the structure, which must investigate and prevent this kind of monopolistic position. Long time for one reason or another, check the AMC did not see any problems here”, – said Avakov.
Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko, with whom Avakov came to the briefing, said that the AMC has imposed fines on “Tedis”, but had to apply measures to the manufacturers of tobacco products and force them to diversify sales.
Avakov then continued that the head of AMKU Yury Terentyev today were out of town, his Deputy Nina Sidorenko, who conducted the case of the “Tedis”, also on a business trip, another Deputy in the vacation.
“I, as Minister, a political figure can claim that the result of this inquiry the society and we all have the right to demand the resignation of the leadership of the Antimonopoly Committee”, – he said.
Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko declared that the answer will be and former leaders of the AMCU, which in 2012 allowed to be a monopoly “Megapolis-Ukraine” (now “Tedis”).
“Tedis Ukraine” controls the market for distribution of tobacco products. Its services are used by all four major manufacturers: “Philip Morris Ukraine”, “JTI Ukraine”,”Imperial tobacco Ukraine” and “BAT Ukraine”, which occupy 98% of the cigarette market. In 2014 and 2015, 100% made in Ukraine cigarettes were implemented “Tedis” (“Metropolis”).
Due to this “Tedis Ukraine”is in the top 20 of the largest Ukrainian companies.
