These simple things were in short supply.
If you trace the history of the USSR, the country has an acute shortage of goods. They had not to buy, to get, to agree to purchase under the counter. Things like nylon tights, hair dye and even plastic bags was considered to be the object of desire of Soviet women.

Nylon tights and stockings was considered a dream of the Soviet women from the 1950-ies and until the collapse of the Soviet Union. The demand was so great that the domestic industry could not cope. Tights became one of a win-win gift for a birthday, a bribe or an incentive award to any competitions.
If tights or stockings were torn, a resourceful woman immediately covered the arrow with varnish or glue, then sew them at home.

When guests come, grandmother, among other treats, I try to put on the table the sliced smoked sausage “Moskovskaya”. And all this is because in Soviet times, this variety was considered a delicacy, and it should have been like any other scarce commodity to “get”. And not all regions have put “Moscow”.

Earlier I was hearing a riddle: long, green and smells like sausage. The answer (who does not remember): the train from Moscow. For a delicacy most often went to the capital, where, having stood a long queue, you could get stick summer sausage for the holiday table.
Hair dye

Hair dye was considered to be another scarce commodity, which was hunted by Soviet women. The fact that initially the only hair dye was henna and Basma, which were mixed in different proportions depending on the desired hue. Absolutely desperate used hydrogen peroxide.

In the 1960s there was the first paint from Czechoslovakia and the GDR, and later the domestic chemical industry began to produce desired tubes. That’s just to look they had in the afternoon with fire. Of course, some went to the hairdresser, but the cost of services for hair coloring was very high.

Feminine hygiene in the Soviet Union was not interested in anyone except women. The modern concept of the strips is then completely absent. Wadding, gauze, rags, which are washed and then used again – that’s the whole simple set. There was, however, such tricks, such as rubber belt, designed to hold a homemade gasket.
Worst of all, Soviet women did not know about the existence of the spacers. If they were in currency “birches”, the majority of attendees walked past, unaware of what is on the shelf. The strip appeared in the 1980s, and then only in small quantities and only in pharmacies. Their massive use began after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Washing machine in the Soviet time was the dream of every woman. After the conversion of military plants started production of a wide range of home appliances. Despite the huge cost then of washing machines (at first 600 rubles, then a bit below), they are not enough for everyone.

In 1980 appeared a miracle of technology – washing machine “Vyatka-automatic”. The plant “elektrobytpribor” bought a license for its production at the Italian company Merloni Progetti (“Indesit”). The truth deficit “Vyatka” was not, as the price of “bite”. But the winner of the produced in the USSR machines-machines were happy, and the technique served faithfully for long years after the collapse of the Union.

Today it sounds funny, but in the Soviet Union women were happy to have at least a couple of packages. They were treated very gently: washed, sealed with tape, sewed on the sewing machine. Some women used the bags instead of handbags. A special honor was packages with images of celebrities or beautiful inscriptions of foreign brands. Deficit package has ceased to be in the late 1980s, but they continued to erase the old memory until the twenty-first century.
