The Governor of the U.S. state of Texas Greg Abbott has estimated the losses from hurricane “Harvey” in the amount of from 150 to 180 billion US dollars. He said on 3 September 2017, reports DW. In particular, Abbott announced that the damage from “Harvey” will exceed the losses as a result of powerful hurricane Katrina 2005 and sandy 2012.
Katrina, as I recall, caused a (loss – ed.) to $ 120 billion, but if you look at the number of homes and businesses that is (“Harvey” – ed.) have caught on, I think it would cost substantially more than $ 120 billion, probably from 150 to 180 billion… It’s more than a hurricane sandy – estimated by the Governor.
Earlier, the Administration of U.S. President Donald trump addressed the Congress with a request to allocate a 7.85 billion dollars for liquidation of consequences of bad weather in Texas. Governor Abbott called it a “first payment” and was reminded that we have to rebuild “the fourth largest city in the USA (Houston – ed.) as a geographical region”.
“Harvey” – the most powerful hurricane that struck Texas in the last 50 years. According to current data, the disaster killed 47 people. More than a million residents were forced to leave their destroyed, damaged or flooded homes.
