The company Subaru has introduced a special modification of “charged” sedan WRX STI, which is called Type RA.
Subaru WRX STI Type RA have been specially prepared for the record lap at the Nurburgring for four-door cars.
The preparation of the car to check in was done by the British company Prodirve. The sedan got a new engine: the place of 2.5-liter unit took the motor a working volume of two liters. Its impact is approximately 600 horsepower, and “red zone” of the tachometer begins at 8 500 rpm.
The engine of Subaru WRX STI Type RA is combined with a sequential gearbox of its own design Prodrive. Change of steps takes 20-25 milliseconds. The active center differential from the serial version of the model in the Subaru and Prodrive have decided not to touch it.
Also the car received a completely reworked racing suspension, 15-inch brake discs with eight-piston calipers on all wheels racing “slicks” and an active rear wing capable of change the angle of attack.
Pilot car trusted racing driver Richie Stanaway. The attempt to establish a record was taken on may 19 this year, but on the day of the race it was raining, so the best time for Subaru WRX STI Type RA install failed. The automaker promised to make another attempt this summer.
Now the fastest sedan on the Nurburgring is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, which drove the “North loop” for 7 minutes and 32 seconds.
