Student 12: in Ukraine will be the first University for kids

In a unique University to study children from 8 to 12 years.

In the framework of Ukrainian-German year of languages 2017-2018 Goethe-Institut opens in Ukraine the German digital children’s University where children from 8 to 12 years in the gaming form will be able to study science, engineering and German. Presentation of the German digital children’s University will take place in four cities – Kiev, Zaporozhye, Odessa and Lviv, but to engage all students, regardless of their place of residence: the online platform is already available for registration.

“In children, there are a thousand questions about how the world works. German digital children’s University picks up this interest and provides an opportunity to get acquainted with different fields of knowledge in a playful way and at the same time to delve into the German language”, – says the head of the language Department of the Goethe-Institut in Ukraine Susanna Becker.

As explained by Becker, the German digital children’s University uses the methodology of CLIL (Content and Language lntegrated Learning). Empirical-experimental approach to natural science awakens the power of observation in children, and also encourages learning a foreign language with concrete situations, supports creative thinking.

German digital children’s University consists of three faculties: “Person”, “Nature” and “Technique”. At the faculty of “Man” topics such as medicine, other cultures, food, art and sport. Faculty of Nature explores the flora and fauna, and “Technique” is a school where children learn the structure and functions of different devices.

Learning as a game: participants collect badges and gain new titles – student, bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate and, eventually, Professor. In Digital children’s University can study how children with knowledge of the German language, and without it. The main characters are absent-minded, but ingenious Professor, Einstein and his assistant, a researcher Sophie Slow.

At the opening of the Children’s University in Kiev, Zaporozhye, Odessa and Lviv have registered more than 700 children to participate in presentations, workshops and experiments, and the final chord is an exciting adventure with Professor Einstein and Sophie Slow. This digital capability can be used individually or accompanied by a school teacher.
