Here the scientists have a place to “turn around”.
In the early 1800-ies the first researchers appeared in Antarctica and since that time, the continent remains the most mysterious on the planet. Rumors about a secret base of the Third Reich the strange story of the missing expeditions, and even legends about the aliens… But what really hides this thick layer of ice.
Mysterious ancient meteorite
In 2015, NASA scientists have discovered in Antarctica a meteorite that had fallen another thirteen thousand years ago. It turned out that he came from Mars, and within preserved specimens of microbes of the red planet.
Elongated skull
During excavations in the region Lapel archaeologists have discovered elongated skulls. The discovery stirred up the scientific world: the unusual shape of the remains is yet to come, because scientists believed that the man had never been in Antarctica before.
The remains of dinosaurs
In the early 1990-ies scientists were surprised to discovered in Antarctica the remains of dinosaurs. Archaeologists suggest that ancient creatures have inhabited this continent about 200 million years ago.
Pyramid
In the Antarctic there are several pyramids, the shape of which is identical to the Egyptian. There is a version on some proto, once mastered Antarctica, and then settled around the world.
Fossils
In 2009 archaeologists found frozen in ice remains of the strange egg-laying animal about the size of our modern cat. Interestingly, this species most likely survived the global warming migrating from Africa to the Antarctica.
Bloody waterfall
The flow of blood-red liquid gushes out of the glacier Taylor. In fact, no blood then of course there is, and the unusual color of the water ensures a high copper content. Water source is a lake a few kilometers from the waterfall, completely covered with ice.
The wreckage of the plane
On Board the plane that went missing on 11 September 2013, there were three Canadians. The wreckage was discovered only recently on the slope of mount Elizabeth. Most likely, the plane crashed into a mountain through the fault of the pilot, not noticing the snowy top.
Centennial whiskey
One of the surprising findings the researchers began with a few boxes of Scotch whiskey centenary of aging. About the taste of the drink is not known, scientists have decided not to open the bottle.
A terrible creature
At a depth of 342 meters, an American group of researchers stumbled upon a chilling (but, fortunately, dead) creature that was almost impossible to identify. Retractable jaws, the bony ridge and very strange the whole body structure.
The lake under the glacier
The researchers drilled a hole to a depth of 700 meters on the Ross ice shelf, which revealed an underground lake. Amazingly, a thick layer of ice where never light, hide the real reserve: small fish, jellyfish and anemones.
