A leading science writer Julian Cribb warns of global warming, threatening, almost uncontrollable climate, according to a growing number of scientific reports from around the world.
“Time is running out if we want to keep our world in a stable, healthy and productive, able to feed and support all of us,” says Julian Cribb, author of “Survival in the 21st century”, a book about the ten greatest problems facing humanity.
A huge concern is the rapid growth in the last three years the level of methane in the atmosphere. Methane is a gas that is 28 times greater than the planetary power of carbon dioxide. According to scientists, may be 5 trillion tons of it locked in permafrost and in sediments on the seabed. Scientists believe that the planet is warming due to human activities, these huge reserves of greenhouse gases now begin to melt and jump in a natural way.
The story of Earth’s past shows that it can unleash runaway global warming, raising the planetary temperature to 9 or 10 degrees. At such temperatures some scientists believe that there is a high risk that the planet will become uninhabitable for humans and large animals. Global warming and nuclear war are two of the most probable trigger mechanism for human extinction, says Cribb.
