Astrophysicists have found that the Sun is much “thinner”.
For three billion years, the Sun has lost about three percent of its original mass, but its brightness has remained virtually unchanged.
This was stated by a group of American specialists, under the leadership of Petrus Martens of Montana state University.
According to experts, this could explain why ancient Earth and even on Mars were oceans of liquid water.
To date, it is assumed that due to natural processes occurring in the solar interior, with time, the Orb becomes brighter. This, in particular, were forced to assume that in the past the Sun was dimmer than today, and therefore, on planets like the earth should be much colder than today. However, in this case, it is not entirely clear how on Earth and on Mars were formed oceans of liquid water (that on the red planet itself was also evidence of more and more data is collected through exploratory probes. According to the most popular assumption, this can be explained by the fact that in the past the atmosphere of Earth and Mars was denser than it is today. However, the authors of a new study suggest that it may not be in this, or at least not only that.
The attention of specialists was attracted by the fact that the Sun and similar stars over time, some slow its rotation, which could be explained by mass loss. According to the calculations that scientists had every year Orb was lost less than a billionth of a percent of its mass, but for all time of existence of the Sun, the difference is “accumulated” quite palpable. However, today the process of losing weight slowed down a hundred times.
So far experts have not been published in peer-reviewed journals, and its Preprint available at arxiv.org.
According to General ideas, in the distant future the Sun will become much larger than today — in about five billion years it will turn into a red giant. By this time Earth, if it, happens, something truly unexpected will be either absorbed by the sun or warmed them to such a degree that life it will be unusable.
