Scientists have learned about the axe of ötzi.
Scientists said that the axe is “the ice man” ötzi, a mummy which was found in the Alps, was made of imported copper – it was produced in 500 kilometers from the place where was found the mummy.
The researchers conducted analysis showed that copper, from which was made the ax also contained lead, silver, arsenic and a dozen other chemical elements. Previously, scientists assumed that the copper axe of ötzi was extracted in 100 kilometers from the place where his body was found. Now, however, it was found that the origin of copper is South of Tuscany, so she was brought over 550 kilometers.
Prior to this, scientists have already established that the age of the axe is 5300 years, while in the Alps are already actively mined, why ötzi needed the copper produced so far, at the moment unclear. It is also unknown whether the ax is made in Tuscany and from there was brought only ore for him.
Ötzi, the oldest known European mummy: her age is 5300 years old. The “ice man” was found by hikers in the Ötztal Alps in 1991. Due to the good preservation of the mummy, the experts at first suggested that they face a dead mountaineer, and only then found out that the discovery belongs to the bronze age. At the time of his death ötzi was 45 (which is a lot for a person at the time). The cause of death was the arrow shot in the shoulder. Due to the fact that the tip dug very deep, “ice man” couldn’t get him out.
