Astronomers from the European southern Observatory (ESO) took a picture of the galaxy Messier 77 (M77).
Lovely photo became part of the educational program “Space treasures ESO”.
Galaxy M77 was opened in 1780, the French astronomer Pierre Mechain. He told about his discovery to Charles Messier, who listed it in the catalogue under the number 77. For a long time it was believed that the M77 was only a nebula in the constellation of the whale, but later, with the use of modern technologies of observation, it was proved that the M77 is a galaxy with a diameter of about 100 thousand light years.
M77 is characterized by its mass, which is a neighboring galaxy to deform, as well as extraordinary brightness.
The received through overlay 4 photos taken in different bands of the spectrum: red, blue, purple and pink.
