Scientists have made a surprising discovery about the Roman Empire

Scientists have discovered new details about the structure of the Roman Empire through geochemical analysis of ancient coins.

Obtained in the course of the study, the data specialists unveiled at the 27th International Goldschmidt conference held in Paris.

Scientists from Germany and Denmark were subjected to a detailed study of 70 Roman coins, which date from approximately 2120 – 2330 years ago. The isotopes of lead in the composition of the silver coins allowed to know exactly the age and origin of the materials used to create cash.

In accordance with the results of the examination, the coins were cast in the year 209 BC, when unfolded military action that is interpreted by historians as the Punic wars between Rome and Carthage. “Apple of discord” between the two States was right to prevail in the vast Mediterranean
sea.

A new study contributed to a better understanding of the process of formation of the Roman Empire and the withdrawal from the regional authorities.
