Researchers from the University of Washington showed how it is possible to remotely monitor the movements of people in the room with your smartphone and Bluetooth speakers.
Through the column broadcast high-frequency pulses that are reflected from room surfaces, after which they picks up the microphone of the smartphone.
The movement of people in the room changes the picture of the reflected pulses. Analyzing these changes, it is possible to detect the linear movement of people (walking in a straight line) and rhythmic movement (physical exercise).
In fact, it is sonar, sound navigation and ranging – the same technology, with which submarines exploring the depths of the sea.
It can be done from any device with a speaker and a microphone, for example from a smart TV.
The transmitted pulses are perceptible to the human ear, but they can hide, mixing them with rhythmic music.
