To grow blood vessels from stem cells could researchers at the University of British Columbia.
This is the first experience in the world. The experiment was conducted using Petri dishes. It was also found that to grow blood vessels, completely identical to the human, and within organisms, e.g., animals.
The resulting vessels have not yet been tested on human tissues, but have successfully passed the test on mice. Grown in the Petri dishes, the material was transplanted to several rodents. And was a truly wonderful event – the transplanted cells very quickly began to behave like a normal blood vessels – reproduced their structure and began to perform their inherent functions.
In addition, scientists have tried to place the vessels on the basis of stem cells in the environment that mimic diabetes. And again, obtained in laboratory conditions, the material behaved as a living. Vessels began to operate as if it belonged to a person suffering from diabetes. They demonstrated the same microvascular changes – modeled controllers diabetic pathology.
It is assumed that to grow blood vessels for human will, and in beings of other species. As noted by the head of the team of researchers Joseph Penninger, this discovery could be a breakthrough in the treatment of a variety of diseases of the heart and vessels. In addition, our circulatory system has a connection with all bodies.
