Why men earn little money
People who are in the last months of fetal development in the first years of life exposed to high temperatures, to 30 years earn less than their peers. Reported by scientists by publishing the results of their work in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
During the study, researchers analyzed data on more than 12 million Americans born in the years 1969-1977. They took into account the date and place of birth, race, gender, and income level. Turning to the record of weather conditions during the study period, scientists found out how often people were exposed to high temperatures up to birth and during the first year.
The results showed that the more often in the last months before birth and in the first year of life they found themselves in a heat around 32°C, the less they earn in adulthood. For every day spent in the heat, had reduced annual income by an average of 30 dollars, scientists have found.
While previous studies have shown that excessive heating can lead to increased infant mortality and the birth of underweight children.
“We know that high temperature affects many aspects of health. But we didn’t know whether her influence to affect the future life of a person,” the researchers note.
Fruit and newborn children are most sensitive to rising temperatures because their nervous system and ability to thermoregulation is still not fully developed. Therefore, when the heat affects the brain development of the child, it can lead to many consequences, including problems with earnings.
Until that day, when the temperature rises above 30°C, are not too often, however, in the context of global climate change, everything can change, scientists warn.
