The cubic Zirconia crystals are formed only at temperatures of 2370 °C.
“Approximately 36 million years ago an asteroid crashed into the place which in the present day is the canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Researchers from the University kertina in Perth, Australia, and Western University in London, Ontario found that within a short period, the temperature at the point of impact exceeded 2370 degrees Celsius – which makes this place the hottest spot on Earth”, – is spoken in the message.
Scientists have learned about it thanks to the crystals of cubic Zirconia, the structure resembles a diamond. They were found in the crater Mistastin, which turned into a lake in the center of which stands a small island.
In the soil on the shore of the lake is mineralized fragments of glass: in the past, the strongest impact, the rock gets hot and caked in glazed ground. Talking about it, and the traces of the shock wave, forever changed the landscape of the area.
But the most important discovery of geologists was already mentioned zirconium. He also has played a key role, since such crystals are formed only at temperatures of 2370 °C.
For comparison, this is two times colder than the surface of the Sun.
