Scientists have potentially discovered the smallest star in the Universe, which is in the constellation of Sculptor.
As reported in the source, the diameter of the star EBLM J0555-57Ab approximately equal to the diameter of the planet Saturn, but she is heavier than 85 times than the planet Jupiter.
It is also known that this star is located at a distance of 600 light years from Earth. Along with two stars of solar mass, EBLM J0555-EBLM J0555 and 57A-57B, it is part of a triple star system.
While we have not measured the mass of the object, it looked just like a planet. It is not clear how stars with very different masses, as in our case, can be so close to each other – shared Amory Trio from Cambridge University, one of the authors of the study.
Scientists emphasize that if the mass of the smallest stars EBLM J0555-57Ab was a little less then a thermonuclear reaction in its core just would not start.
