Scottish scientists from Edinburgh University have unraveled the mystery of the chemical composition of Neptune.
Experts have conducted numerous studies and were able to make logical conclusions based on the obtained data.
The materials of the experiments of scientists can be found in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy. Neptune is the eighth planet of the Solar system and the only one discovered not by observation, but by mathematical calculations.
Low temperature on this space object leads to the appearance of a frozen mix of water, ammonia and methane, which forms an intermediate layer between the atmosphere and the core. The form in which elements are at the moment almost not studied and is a real mystery to experts. Scientists can’t in the walls of the laboratories to create the conditions, consistent with existing on Neptune.
For their research, the experts have used computer simulations. They analyzed the reacting substances at extremely low temperatures and came to the conclusion that they form the compound ammonium hemihydrate. This discovery will allow a better classification of the different planets and help better explore gas giants.
