Researchers from the University of Oregon found in Myanmar, flowers age of 100 million years.
Flowers with a diameter of 3.4 to 5 mm, most likely stripped from the tree the dinosaur in the Cretaceous period.
“Dinosaurs could bring down branches with flowers, they fell into the tar on the tree Araucaria, which has preserved them to our days,” explained Professor George Poinar, Jr., (George Poinar Jr.). Interestingly, Araucaria are autism that is currently growing in Australia and New Zealand.
Flowers with five petals, the researchers called Tropidogyne pentaptera — penta in Greek means “five”, and ptera — wings. They were classified in the existing plants of the family Kononovich, in which nowadays includes shrubs and trees with leathery leaves and small flowers that grow in the southern hemisphere.
Scientists were able to properly review seven flowers. They have survived five long sepals, nectar disk, and some the ovary (lower part of the pistil) with protruding “ribs”.
How distant relatives minskogo fossil been found in modern Australia? Professor Poinar explained that, most likely, a place in Myanmar, where they found the flowers, was part of a larger India, which separated from Gondwana, procontinental the southern hemisphere, joined to South Asia. Malaysia, including Burma, was formed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic era due to the movement of lithospheric plates.
