For their study, the experts invited 2.5 thousand people
Scientists from universities in Australia and the United States revealed a relationship between the level of natural light and a person’s willingness to financial risk.
A study published August 4 in the journal PLOS.
Experts have found that the higher the level of natural lighting, the less willing people are risking their money. For their study, which took place in Washington, experts are invited 2.5 thousand people.
In one embodiment, the survey participants were offered five dollars with a probability of 100% and $ 20 with probability 50%. In another they were offered to five dollars with a probability of 100% or $ 20 with an uncertain probability.

People’s answers are then compared with the level of room lighting and time of day and year. It turned out that at high lighting people are more likely to avoid a known risk, i.e., would prefer a 100% chance to get five dollars. Also, the participants preferred to receive five dollars than to risk $ 20 with a probability of 25%. The researchers noted that the stronger pattern is observed among older people.
