Crocodiles appeared on earth about 200 million years ago
The oldest known science the eggs of a crocodile was discovered in the cliffs of Western Portugal. They are so well preserved, that can give scientists an idea about the crocodile that laid them 152 million years ago.
Crocodiles appeared on earth about 200 million years ago, and then side by side with early dinosaurs. “The fact that they belong to the late Jurassic period, making them the oldest discovered eggs of the crocodile at the moment,” said Giovanni Russo from the University of Lisbon.
The eggs were delayed by close relatives of “real” crocs and representatives of the detachment of crocodylomorphs. Paleontologists regularly find the bones of crocodylomorphs, including the sarcosuchus, which lived in African rivers and ate dinosaurs and fish.
Scientists have found eggs related, probably, to two types, a few clutches. They are remarkably similar to modern crocodile eggs. This may indicate that these reptiles haven’t changed much in the last 150 million years. It remains a mystery that how the crocodile eggs were in the nest of dinosaurs.
Fossil eggs of members of the family the crocodiles are able to detect the much rarer and are often already overwhelmed. For several years eggs were found during excavations in the nest of dinosaurs near the village of Loriga North of Lisbon.
