It is the same distance from its star as our planet is from the Sun.
An international team of researchers said that they found a new icy planet the size of Earth.
According to the Agency, the planet, the size of which is approximately equal to the size of the Earth, is at the same distance from its star as Earth is from the Sun.
“This icy planet is the smallest of those that have ever been detected by microlensing”, — reported in connection with the opening of employee of the jet propulsion Laboratory of NASA in Pasadena (California) black forest Yossi (Yossi Shvartzvald).
NASA noted that, “most likely, the planet is too cold in order that it could be life as we know it, as its star is too weak.”
As explained in NASA’s new planet was named OGLE-2016-BLG-1195Lb. She was identified as a result of carried out at the University of Warsaw (Poland) optical experiment on gravitational lensing (Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment, OGLE). The authors also used a South Korean network of telescopes for microlensing KMTNet and the U.S. space telescope Spitzer (Spitzer).
NASA notes that the discovery contributes to a better understanding of the distribution of planets in our galaxy. According to scientists, it provides new knowledge for understanding the planetary systems outside the Solar system.
