They are older than Stonehenge by about 800 years.
The Commission for the historical monuments and buildings of England came to the conclusion that the monument of Avebury, consisting of stone pillars and wooden circles older than Stonehenge by about 800 years.
According to the researchers, the wooden circles are too small to be a fence, and that they, most likely, used in a mystical purposes, and the burning of circles was part of the ritual.
Also Stonehenge, most likely, over time, changed Avebury as a ritual space.
