Unusual car attracted the attention of the public.
At the famous American MIT (Massachusetts Institute of technology) has created a “polite” robot. Socially responsible behavior of mechanical creation is manifested in the fact that it is safe to use in crowded place. The robot, even moving at high speed, in a timely manner recognizes the approaching person and carefully inspects it.
It is noteworthy that the robot takes into account the traditions adopted in each specific country, depending on local orders (left – or right-hand traffic) toured the barrier left or right. Also, the robot is subject to unwritten social norms, observing the distance adopted between people in a particular region.
To navigate the robot help a set of cameras and laser sensors. As noted by a team of researchers, the robot selecting the motion path uses slightly different principles than unmanned vehicles. The latter are guided by the road markings and cars, which move mostly predictable. But the creators of the robot’s task was to teach him how to move in the crowd, where many are moved randomly.
The “training” of the robot used a special technique: the system was trained to work with a set of commands, and trial and error to interact with the environment. As a result, operating system can up to ten times per second to optimize the route, keeping a decent for a robot moving speed (1.2 m/s).
The researchers say that robots with such skills can be used in shopping malls, airports, medical and educational institutions.
