The map will be an important tool for research projects.
Scientists from Ohio state University and the University of Minnesota claim to have created the most accurate and detailed map of Antarctica.
The supercomputer has collected a huge amount of data, including elevation changes of the earth over time, and created an extremely detailed topographic map, the file size is more than 150 TB.
“Until now, scientists have a map of Mars looked better than the map of Antarctica, noted glaciologist Ohio State University Ian to hide. – In this extension you can see almost everything. In some places we can see variations in the snow. We can measure changes in the surface of the continent over time.”
The map will be an important tool for research projects, providing data about snow cover, ice movement, melting of glaciers and activity of rivers and volcanoes. Scientists will be able to better track the effects of climate change, and researchers will be easier to plan field expeditions.
